The President of Latvia, Egils Levits, has thanked the organisers of the Big Cleanup for ‘Trees of Happiness’ campaign and everyone who took part in the World Cleanup Day. “I am proud of all of those who have been taking part in the Big Cleanup activities over the past more than ten years. Thanks to your individual efforts Latvia is becoming cleaner every year. I am happy to see that we have a vibrant civil society which can do great things not only for Latvia, but also the whole world. While the rest of the world worked hard on the World Cleanup Day on 21 September, we, the Latvians, planted the Trees of Happiness for our and the whole planet’s future. This campaign has been widely recognised and organisers of the World Cleanup Day have urged other leaders of the world to follow the example of ‘Trees of Happiness’ campaign and consider steps for improving the ecosystem of our planet,” said President Levits.
