On 11 July, President Edgars Rinkēvičs met with Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau on the margins of the NATO Summit in Washington. The two leaders discussed bilateral relations between the two countries, including active political dialogue, economic cooperation and Canada's military presence in Latvia.

During the meeting, the President underscored the significance of the Canadian military presence in Latvia for the security of the Baltic region and expressed gratitude for the successful work on the establishment of the brigade-level military presence. E. Rinkēvičs assured that Latvia was taking all the necessary measures to guarantee the necessary support for the increased Canadian military presence in Latvia. The President expressed gratitude for Canada's role in the drone coalition and in the establishment of the drone test site in Sēlija.

E. Rinkēvičs welcomed Canada's support to Ukraine, including its active engagement in the Ukraine Peace Initiative and the International Coalition for the Return of Ukrainian Children.

The President of Latvia also called for the enhancement of economic ties between Latvia and Canada, emphasizing the importance of fostering collaboration between the defence industries of the two countries.
