On 2 December, President Edgars Rinkēvičs met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada, Mélanie Joly, at the Riga Castle to discuss bilateral cooperation between the two countries, especially in the fields of defence and security as well as the latest developments on the international agenda.
During the meeting, the President of Latvia welcomed Canada's military presence and the successful establishment of the NATO Multinational Brigade in Latvia, where Canada is the leading country. "I am grateful for Canada's leadership in strengthening NATO's eastern flank and in leading the NATO Multinational Brigade in Latvia. Demonstrating the readiness of NATO forces is a powerful deterrence signal, as evidenced by the recent Canadian-led NATO Multinational Brigade Latvia exercise "Resolute Warrior 2024"," said E. Rinkēvičs. The President assured to continue providing full host nation support in Latvia.
