“Not the politicians, but our entrepreneurs and taxpayers create our state budget. Therefore, we must find the best ways to support entrepreneurs,” said President of Latvia Raimonds Vējonis at the reception for entrepreneurs and local government leaders on the occasion of the 98th anniversary of the Proclamation of the Independence of the Republic of Latvia today.

The President of Latvia stressed significant contribution of entrepreneurs to the overall development of the country, as well as the role of local governments in creating the business friendly environment. He emphasized that we should be proud of the achievements of our entrepreneurs and the development of local governments, but we should do a lot of homework at the same time in order to make public administration more efficient.

“This year is marked by the fact that a number of problems have become more visible. Neither the public nor businesses are willing to wait another 25 years for us to adopt those decisions that are essential to population, entrepreneurs, and local governments,” said Raimonds Vējonis.

The President of Latvia pointed out that the state should be able to keep up with the time and to adapt to the dynamic trends of development in the world by adopting the decisions that are important for the development and competitiveness of the country, and decisions should be made swiftly. “State budget and budgets of local governments must be used handily so that the business community and taxpayers would not have bitterness due to inexpedient use of resources,” said Raimonds Vējonis.

Last year the President of Latvia established a tradition to host a reception for heads of local governments and major national entrepreneurs in order to thank for their significant contribution in favour of Latvia during public holidays in November.
