President of Latvia Egils Levits met with President of the Constitutional Court Aldis Laviņš and Vice-President Irēna Kucina today. He congratulated both judges on successful election and discussed further cooperation between the two constitutional bodies, President of Latvia and Constitutional Court.
Constitutional Court President Laviņš presented proposed amendments to the Constitutional Court Law. New provisions will boost the efficiency of the court, ensuring that proceedings take less time and modern tools are being used, including fast-track review procedure. President of the Constitutional Court also mentioned that additional changes in the law will need to be made to also integrate the e-case system. President Levits expressed his support for new legal provisions, which are ready to be debated in the Saeima.
Meeting also focused on forthcoming international conference that Constitutional Court will host this September. Main theme of the conference will be sustainability as one of the values in the constitutional law. President Levits has accepted the invitation of the Constitutional Court to deliver a keynote speech at the conference that is expected to gather more than hundred experts from European constitutional courts in Riga.
