Raimonds Vējonis pointed out that on this day we remembered the events being among the most fateful throughout the history of Latvia. The Barricades were one of those moments when the people confirmed their readiness to confront the armed superiority to defend their freedom and the dream of independent Latvia.
“The people of Latvia must be united because only then we will be capable of protecting ourselves and developing. We may not allow for forming any barricade among us, all the people of Latvia,” stated the President of Latvia.
He expressed gratitude to all the participants of the January Barricades who took part in history making of Latvia courageously: “Thanks to you, the free state of Latvia exists today! God bless Latvia!”
