From 10 to 11 October, President Edgars Rinkēvičs participated in the Arraiolos Group meeting in Krakow, Poland.
At the informal meeting, the presidents of the 11 European Union (EU) member states discussed strengthening European security and transatlantic relations, support for Ukraine, as well as the EU's current challenges and enlargement policy.
President Rinkēvičs stated that security should be a principal priority of the EU, underscoring the importance of transatlantic relations in strengthening European security. E. Rinkēvičs also noted that the EU must significantly enhance its defence and military-industrial capacity and raise its global competitiveness.
President Rinkēvičs emphasised the importance of supporting Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression. "Russia is undermining international law and order. It has fundamentally altered the security environment. Regardless of the outcome of Russia's aggression against Ukraine, Russia will remain the most direct, serious and long-term threat to Euro-Atlantic security. We must continue to provide military support to Ukraine and lift restrictions on its use of weapons," said E. Rinkēvičs.
At the meeting, President of Latvia also expressed support for the EU's enlargement policy, emphasizing the significance of advancing the EU integration of Ukraine and Moldova.
