Raimonds Vējonis
“Confidence of Latvian national guerrilla was the basis for the idea of a free and independent state of Latvia surviving through all the years of occupation. The guerrilla movement was the lifeblood of faith that restoring the freedom of Latvia was possible,” said President of Latvia Raimonds Vējonis during a meeting with the representatives of Latvian national guerrilla today.

The President of Latvia emphasized that the movement of Latvian national guerrilla is unique in the global history of the 20th century, because it was among the few movements that existed without any help and support from the outside world for many years. “National guerrilla had no opportunity to cross the border to rest, to heal their wounds or to supplement munition. That was a struggle for survival against cunning and strong opponents 24 hours a day every day for many years,” said Raimonds Vējonis.

The President of Latvia pointed out that the national guerrilla was an example due to their courage and dedication that we can learn even today. He thanked the national guerrilla for their significant contribution to restoration of the independence of our country and their strong belief in free Latvia.
