On 2 August, President Edgars Rinkēvičs paid a working visit to Valka region, where he met with the municipality's leadership in Vijciems. During his visit to Valka region, the President of Latvia also visited the cone drying facility of "Latvijas Valsts meži" and the nature farm "Bekas". He also got acquainted with the work of the construction, packaging materials and "IGLU" developmental toy manufacturer "Pepi Rer" Ltd, as well as the manufacturer of forest machinery spare parts and metal parts "Kalnstrīķi-1" Ltd.
President Rinkēvičs was introduced Valka-Valga Twin City centre urban design project and the exhibition "Valka - the Cradle of Latvian Independence" dedicated to the centenary of the Latvian Provisional National Council at the Valka History Museum and historical and archaeological monument of national importance "Ērģeme Castle Ruins".
"The inhabitants of Valka region take great responsibility in the preservation of nature, cultural and industrial heritage of the municipality, as evidenced by the restoration of natural meadows, the reconstruction of the Ērģeme Castle ruins and the preservation of the historic cone drying facility. The exhibition on Valka as the cradle of Latvia's independence at the Valka History Museum was particularly interesting. I am delighted to see that numerous enterprises based in this municipality have launched new business strategies, developed innovative products, and established themselves in the global export markets," said President Edgars Rinkēvičs.
At the end of his working visit, President Edgars Rinkēvičs met with the residents of the municipality at the Valka Culture House.
