On 12 July, President of Latvia Egils Levits visited the Institute of Electronics and Computer Science (EDI). He met with the management and staff of the Institute and got acquainted with latest projects. Institute of Electronics and Computer Science delivers world-class technology research projects. It is the leading engineering and technology facility in Latvia and partner in many high-level European research activities,’ President of Latvia stressed.
Egils Levits acknowledged Institute’s strategy for infrastructure and equipment upgrades, close cooperation with more than 300 international partners and impressive levels of European research programme financing and technology transfer for Latvia. ‘New technologies and innovations drive growth and job creation, which are essential for building prosperous and modern Latvia,’ President of Latvia underlined.
President and Director of EDI, members of research council, heads of laboratories and research units discussed how to make the best use of limited national research funding, how projects should be managed and how to further increase Latvia’s research capacity. After getting acquainted with sector’s challenges, Egils Levits offered his recommendations on how to improve efficiency of horizontal cooperation. According to President, Latvia must support science on political level. Without such support sector will not be viable and will be incapable of delivering on strategic economic goals.
Researchers from EDI showcased President Levits latest projects in the area of image processing and artificial intelligence, timers and ultrasound technologies, biometric systems and wearables, long-range technologies and radars, robotics and many other fields. President also had an opportunity to learn more about EDI’s driverless car technology.
