Raimonds Vējonis
President of Latvia Raimonds Vējonis will participate in the annual international security conference in Munich on Friday and Saturday. There will be a meeting of the Presidents of the three Baltic States and US Vice President Mike Pence convened on Saturday, February 18.

During the meeting, the parties will discuss strategic cooperation of the Baltic countries and the United States on security and defence, progress regarding implementation of the decisions taken at the NATO Summit in Warsaw, increasing defence spending in the Baltic States, and cooperation in combating global terrorism.

“Latvia treats both its commitments in the NATO and its own security very seriously. Latvia has already increased the defence spending drastically and rapidly so that the defence spending will be 2% of GDP next year,” outlined Raimonds Vējonis.

“A historic decision for Latvia was made at the NATO Summit in Warsaw to strengthen the allied presence in the Baltic States and Poland. We are grateful to the United States and all the allies for the solidarity and unity in their decision-making. We are ready to meet all the obligations of the hosting country for ensuring the Allied presence on the territory of Latvia,” stated the President of Latvia.

During the Munich Security Conference, Raimonds Vējonis has scheduled a bilateral meeting with President of Croatia Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic. The President of Latvia will also participate in the discussion on security in Northern Europe hosted by the Federal Association of the German Industries and the luncheon on the Euro-Atlantic Security Leadership Group Initiative.
