“We are pleased that the cooperation between Latvia and Italy has intensified considerably in recent years, and there is a regular political and expert dialogue between the two countries. I would like to thank Italy especially for its contribution to security of Latvia and the region both by participating in the NATO Battle Group in Latvia and in NATO Baltic Air Policing missions,”

stressed President of Latvia Raimonds Vējonis on Wednesday, 24 April 2019 when meeting with the President of the Republic of Italy Mr Sergio Mattarella.

In addition to traditional cooperation sectors, we see opportunities to develop synergies among research institutions, innovation centres, and educational institutions in Latvia and Italy. “We highly appreciate the program signed in 2018, which opens up new opportunities for strengthening the cooperation in culture, science, and technology between Latvia and Italy,” noted the President of Latvia.

Good connectivity is essential for developing not only tourism but also business and people-to-people contacts. The national airline airBaltic provides direct flights to Rome and another five cities in Italy, thus giving extensive opportunities for cooperation between the two countries.

I am pleased that the Latvian business delegation represents information and communication technology businesses widely,” stated the President of Latvia by addressing the participants of the Business Forum. “In recent years, Latvia’s export of services to Italy has developed rapidly, especially in the ICT sector with exports growing 6 times over a year,” indicated Raimonds Vējonis.
