During the meeting, the President of Latvia stressed, “Latvia has made significant efforts to strengthen the country’s external security and reduce potential threats. Now, it is essential to find the necessary resources to strengthen internal security by making long-term investments in human resources and by improving material and technical resources. ”
Both officials agreed that strengthening internal security should be a priority for the whole government.
In addition, the Minister of the Interior informed that the priorities of his activity would include implementation of Moneyval report recommendations and reduction of corruption risks in the agencies subordinate to the Ministry of the Interior, in addition to attracting financial resources to home affairs system, improving education and qualification of State Police employees, as well as cooperation with Latvian producers on the development of solutions required for national security.
It has already been reported that President of Latvia Raimonds Vējonis planned to meet with all the ministers of the government led by Krišjānis Kariņš to hear the vision of the Ministers on the assignments to be fulfilled and priorities to be pursued in their supervised sectors in 2019 and later on.
