During the meeting, the President of Latvia and the Minister of Foreign Affairs discussed topical foreign policy issues, noting that the advocating Latvia’s interests in the negotiations on the EU multi-annual budget, Brexit issues, elections to the European Parliament would be of great importance shortly. Continuing the work on further strengthening of national security is vital, including strengthening the supervision of the financial sector, which is both the matter of national security and reputation of the country.
Raimonds Vējonis expressed his support for an active diaspora support policy, taking into account the additional funds allocated to the diaspora for education, mass media, and cultural programs, as well as measures to facilitate re-emigration.
It has already been reported that President of Latvia Raimonds Vējonis planned to meet with all the ministers of the government led by Krišjānis Kariņš to hear the vision of the Ministers on the assignments to be fulfilled and priorities to be pursued in their supervised sectors in 2019 and later on. Until now, the President of Latvia has already met with Ministers of Finance, Economics, Agriculture, Interior, Transport, Health, Environmental Protection and Regional Development, Justice, and Welfare.
