During the meeting, the President of Latvia noted that Latvia and Germany shared an active political dialogue and constructive, practical cooperation both bilaterally and in multilateral formats, including the European Union and NATO. In their turn, Riga and Hamburg have historically been united by the links of the Hanseatic League by providing protection of their mutual interests and facilitating trade in Northern Europe.
“Increasing trade intensity characterises economic relations between Latvia and Germany. At the same time, Latvia is ready to develop new directions for cooperation, which the large Latvian business delegation joining me in Hamburg today confirms. Latvia is interested in developing cooperation in digitalisation and science as well as in transport and logistics. In parallel, the excellent cooperation in tourism and attracting students must be continued,” stressed Raimonds Vējonis.
The President of Latvia mentioned that, after this meeting, the entrepreneurs and he would participate in a business forum at the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce focusing on information and communication technologies, smart mobility, aviation, and life sciences. At the same time, he considers Germany be a cooperation partner to create synergies between research institutions, educational institutions, and organisations.
On Monday, an extensive delegation of Latvian entrepreneur will join the President of Latvia at the end of his state visit to Hamburg, Germany. During the day, at the premises of the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce, Raimonds Vējonis will open a business forum hosted by the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia and the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce, as well as he will participate in a luncheon with the management and entrepreneurs of the City of Hamburg. At the end of the day, the President of Latvia will open the Exhibition “Century of Latvia” dedicated to the Centenary of Latvia, and he will give an interview to the German magazine Der Spiegel.
