Taking into account that the consultations among the political parties elected to the 13th convocation of the Saeima on forming a government last for a month already, the President of Latvia expects a decisive and responsible action from Mr Bordāns aimed at agreeing on a future coalition, the majority support of the Saeima, potential composition of the government by coordinating potential candidates to the post of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Minister of Defence and priorities to be done with the President of Latvia.
If no agreement is reached on the issues mentioned above by 21 November 2018 inclusive, the President of Latvia shall recall his order “On the Cabinet of Ministers” of 7 November 2018 and invite another candidate Prime Minister to form the government.
The President of Latvia has already stated that he expects that the new government shall be ready to further strengthen the security of our country and of the financial system and build a balanced state budget.
Ensuring the continuity and succession of the reforms already implemented, strengthening media independence in Latvia, and strengthening the rule of law are of equal importance including improving mechanisms for preventing money laundering and terrorist financing.
