The President of Latvia indicated that the political parties posed risks for the further development and growth of our country by waiting instead of consulting actively on possible support for a single candidate Prime Minister. The agreement reached last week on the work of the 13th convocation of the Saeima when electing the standing committees is a signal that the political parties can agree if there is such a will. Therefore, the President of Latvia expects active consultations from Mr Gobzems to unite the political parties in their support of his candidacy for the post of Prime Minister.
If within two weeks until 10 December 2018 (inclusive), no agreement is reached on the support of the parliamentary majority for the candidacy of Mr Gobzems, the President of Latvia will cancel his decree on the Cabinet of Ministers and invite on the other candidate Prime Minister to form the government.
During this period, the President of Latvia expects an agreement on a model of the next coalition and the majority support of the Saeima, potential composition of the government, and the priorities to be achieved.
