On 26 October, President Edgars Rinkēvičs met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs Krišjānis Kariņš to discuss the priorities set by the Minister, the most important foreign policy issues of the moment, key issues on the agenda of the European Union (EU) and NATO, as well as the strengthening of transatlantic ties.

During the meeting, the President of Latvia and the Foreign Minister expressed their unwavering support for Ukraine. "Latvia will continue to provide all kinds of support to Ukraine in its struggle against Russian aggression, and will also support Ukrainian grain exports to the countries of Global South, including through Baltic ports," emphasised E. Rinkēvičs.

President Rinkēvičs and the Foreign Minister also agreed on the need to strengthen ties with transatlantic partners.

During the conversation, the officials also discussed the current security situation in the Baltic Sea and wider region, the situation in the Middle East, and the need to implement strong and effective EU sanctions against Russia and to prevent circumvention of sanctions.

President Rinkēvičs noted the importance of coordination on foreign policy issues, which is particularly relevant in the current geopolitical environment.
