On 4 September, President of Latvia Edgars Rinkēvičs met with Una Klapkalne, Latvian Radio’s Chairperson of the Board. Meeting, which took place at the Riga Castle, focused on broadcaster’s management priorities, transmission to Latvia’s border regions, public media governance, ideas about envisaged merger of public service broadcasters and possible funding model.
President Rinkēvičs specifically emphasised the special mission that Latvian Radio, as a public media, carries out at a time when society needs access to diverse, unbiased and professional sources of information, which are under growing pressure of disinformation.
During the meeting, President also enquired about Latvian Radio’s position and suggestions with regard to public media merger concept proposed by the National Electronic Mass Media Council.
