H. E. Mr John Leslie Carwile, Ambassador of the United States of America to Latvia, paid farewell visit to the Riga Castle on 26 January to meet the President of Latvia Egils Levits one last time before leaving.President of Latvia recognised Ambassador Carwile’s important contribution in deepening Latvia-US relations with the highest state award in Latvia, theClass III Order of the Three Stars, making John Leslie Carwile the Commander of the Order of the Three Stars.
President Levits’ remarks at the presentation:
‘Last year we celebrated 100 years since establishment of Latvia-US diplomatic relations. We have always been able to rely on our friend and ally for all these 100 years.Especially now, as US continues to increase its militarypresence in the NATO’s Eastern Flank, thus making regional security significantly higher.
Latvia and the United States enjoy a strong transatlantic bond, but your personal input in strengthening those ties, promoting and maintaining high level political dialogue has been absolutely instrumental.’
