On 30 August at Riga Castle President of Latvia Egils Levits presented a Certificate of Merit to senator, long-standing former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Andris Guļāns to mark his important life and work anniversary and laud his contribution to strengthening the rule of law in Latvia and his prudent life’s work as a justice.
“As the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court you actively promoted necessary reforms which ensured the compliance of the judicial system with the requirements of the Satversme and European legal traditions. Your prudent life’s work as a justice, your personal example and leadership have laid the foundation for a strong and professional judiciary which adjudicates independently and fairly in the common interests of the whole society of Latvia,” the President of Latvia states in the Certificate of Merit.
