emphasised President of Latvia Raimonds Vējonis when opening the international conference “Language and State” hosted by the State Language Commission in the Riga Castle on Friday, 5 October 2018.
The President of Latvia noted that ensuring the existence and development of the Latvian language through centuries was among the goals of the Republic of Latvia. Our own country is the best guarantee that our language will always be used and heard. However, the language is alive, it evolves with the community, which uses it both in informal and formal communication every day, maintains, and continuously develops it.
The President of Latvia congratulated the State Language Commission on the opening of the symposium “Reformation and Language”. He outlined that the papers compiled in the book from the previous conference of the State Language Commission enabled a broader public to learn about the role of the Reformation in the development of the Latvian language.
