President of Latvia Egils Levits welcomes today’s vote in the parliament of the Republic of Latvia, Saeima, on laws ratifying the membership of the Republic of Finland and Kingdom of Sweden in NATO.
‘I appeal to all NATO Allies to do the same – ratify the accession protocols so that they come to force,’ President of Latvia Egils Levits said.
‘Latvia has always strongly supported close cooperation between Sweden, Finland and NATO and impressive defence capabilities these countries possess. Their accession to NATO will both enhance security of the Baltic Sea region and NATO’s eastern flank, as well as safety of Europe and NATO as a whole. We stand ready to defend each other and values underpinning the Alliance,’ Egils Levits said.
