On 27 January, President Edgars Rinkēvičs participated in the commemoration events in Poland marking the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp, honouring the memory of Holocaust victims.
“Marking 80 years since the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp and the International Holocaust Remembrance Day, we must strengthen our commitment to combating antisemitism. We must uphold and promote the principles of humanity and tolerance,” said E. Rinkēvičs.
The commemoration events marking the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp were attended by representatives from over 50 nations, including King Charles III of the United Kingdom, King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of Belgium, King Frederik X and Queen Maria of Denmark, Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa of Luxembourg, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima of the Netherlands, Crown Prince Haakon of Norway, King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain, and Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden.
