On 6–7 September, President of Latvia Edgars Rinkēvičs visited Bucharest (Romania) to take part in the annual Three Seas Summit and Business Forum. Heads of state participating in the Summit discussed how to react to latest economic and geopolitical trends.
In his address, President Rinkēvičs underlined the importance of the Three Seas Initiative for connectivity and more growth in the region. He welcomed Greece to the Initiative and granting of partner-participant status to Moldova and Ukraine. This will further strengthen region’s transport, energy and digital connectivity.
President of Latvia confirmed Latvia’s readiness to support grain export from Ukraine. ‘Continued support to Ukraine is crucial. We need to continue building stronger European Union Solidarity Lanes to offer alternative routes. We need to create safe and reliable multi-modal transport corridors. Baltic route is one of the options. Latvian ports have free capacity to accommodate these shipments,’ President Rinkēvičs said.
In his address at the Business Forum, Edgars Rinkēvičs stressed that region’s growth is an integral element of regional defence. ‘More integrated global supply chains create more regional security. New infrastructure meets civilian and military demands,’ President of Latvia pointed out.
