Raimonds Vējonis
“The opening of the Embassy of Latvia in Abu Dhabi and the opening of the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates in Latvia point to the mutual desire to expand bilateral relations,” said President of Latvia Raimonds Vējonis during his meeting with Ms Hanan Khalfan Obaid Ali Al Madhani, the first Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to Latvia.

To enhance the cooperation further, a visit of the President of Latvia, Ministers of Latvia, and an accompanying business delegation to the UAE is planned from February 25 to February 28 this year. During the visit, Raimonds Vējonis intends to meet with the top officials of the UAE.

The President of Latvia will attend the food and hospitality exhibition “Gulfood 2017” during his visit, where the food manufacturers from Latvia will be participating with a national stand for the fourth time already. Extending the legal framework between Latvia and the UAE and strengthening the bilateral economic relations are projected.

The Ambassador of the UAE mentioned during the meeting that the planned visit would take place at a favourable time for the two countries to develop their economic and business ties. She expressed satisfaction that the UAE was the first among the states of the Persian Gulf to open the Embassy in Latvia hoping that it would encourage other countries in the region to do likewise.

The political and economic dialogue between Latvia and the UAE has become increasingly closer over time, as evidenced by the increasing bilateral trade results.
