On 2 March, President of Latvia Egils Levits visited Balvi and Gulbene regions. One of the stops President Levits made was Gulbene Regional Secondary School where he attended the national defence lesson and met with pupils and cadet force instructors.
‘National defence is an indispensable element of school curricula. We need citizen who know how to defend their state and understand the value of Latvian State. A state must be capable of defending itself and youngsters must know why a state needs defending. Gulbene Regional Secondary School is an example other schools introducing national defence lessons should follow as integration of the subject into school curricula must be completed by 2024. You are a role model for the rest of Latvia!’ said President of Latvia Egils Levits after the lesson.
