On 13 September, the President of Latvia, Egils Levits, met with HE Vice President of the Republic of Namibia, Dr. Nangolo Mbumba, at the Riga Castle. This was the first high-level meeting between state officials of both countries.

President Levits expressed his pleasure at receiving the Vice President of Namibia Mr Mbumba at the Riga castle. “Namibia is one of our closest cooperation partners in the continent of Africa. It has made notable achievements in terms of economic growth and facilitation of business environment. Latvia is gradually expanding its bilateral relations with countries of South-West Africa, both the political dialogue and trade relations. Although geographically our countries are far apart, we are bound by close ties that are based on mutual respect and desire to multiply the prosperity of our countries. Namibia and Latvia share the understanding of the need to align high standards of vocational and higher education, as well as digital skills, with economic needs.”

President of Latvia also emphasised that the long-term cooperation between the European Union and Africa should promote sustainability, closer economic ties, favourable investment and business climate.

Namibian Vice President Mbumba thanked the President of Latvia for warm welcome and hospitality. Vice President Mbumba praised Latvia’s remarkable accomplishments in the field of technology, engineering, health care, education and other areas. He also pointed out that Namibian delegation is using the two-day visit to Latvia to learn the best practices and establish personal contacts required for further cooperation.
