Raimonds Vējonis
“The new government must work for improvement of the quality of life in Latvia and so that every Latvian resident would feel that,” said President of Latvia Raimonds Vējonis during his meeting with Prime Minister-designate Māris Kučinskis on Wednesday, February 10.

The President of Latvia appreciated achievement of M.Kučinskis in reaching agreement on the establishment of the new government and in minimizing the role of the coalition council.

Since early in the new government formation talks, the President of Latvia pointed out that the priority issues of the new government should include national security, economic growth, reforms in the education system and the health care system, and improvement of demographic situation.

A day before the scheduled parliamentary vote on confidence for the new government, the President of Latvia welcomed the fact that the work priorities listed in the government's statement were linked with specific objectives and commitment to implement them.

“The new government should establish a dialogue with the public and explain the decisions taken in an understandable manner. We all represent our country, and each of us must participate in the implementation of important national decisions,” stressed the President of Latvia. Raimonds Vējonis called the Prime Minister-designate to involve entrepreneurs and social partners in decision-making process as much as possible.

The President expressed confidence that the government led by Māris Kučinskis would enjoy the confidence of the majority of the Saeima and he wished to hold the PM office until the next Saeima elections.
