During the meeting, the President of Latvia noted that our knowledge was the greatest value in a modern changing world. Therefore, the opportunity to acquire new knowledge and to master the Latvian language, in particular, both enables to familiarise with the culture of our nation and provides a significant long-term contribution to the strengthening of bilateral cooperation between Latvia and China.
“When entrepreneurs are looking for ever more new markets for their goods and services, professionals with language proficiency have significant advantages, and their international competitiveness is improved. Therefore, the curricula developed by the Beijing International Studies University are highly appreciated, which provide opportunities for Chinese students to learn the Latvian language for several years not only in China but also to strengthen the knowledge of the Latvian language in Latvia, while studying at the Riga Technical University for one year,” recognised the President of Latvia at the meeting with the management of the Beijing International Studies University in China.
In his turn, when meeting with the students learning the Latvian language, Raimonds Vējonis stressed, “Language knowledge will give you more opportunities in your future professional life and will promote closer cooperation between our countries. With the support of these programs, every student who has mastered the Latvian language will be more competitive and knowledgeable about work for the growth of our countries.”
During the meeting, the President of Latvia and the representatives of the Beijing International Studies University discussed the successful cooperation with the Riga Technical University and the University of Latvia. Both parties noted it was pleasing that more and more students in Latvia were also using opportunities to learn Chinese language.
Currently, 46 Chinese students study the Latvian language at the Beijing International Studies University. Teachers from Latvia teach the Latvian language at this University. Since 2011, one can study the Latvian language as an optional subject at the Beijing Foreign Studies University as well.
