“The Latvians have contributed to the history of Georgia just like Georgians have contributed to the history of Latvia. The Georgia State Museum of Folk and Applied Art, where we have gathered today, is a symbolic place to some extent, as it has been established thanks to outstanding Latvian textile artist Jūlijs Straume,” stated Raimonds Vējonis.
During the meeting, the President of Latvia reminded the upcoming centenary of Latvia by inviting the Latvian community to visit Latvia and participate in the celebrations there, as well as join a team for organising the celebrations in Georgia. “Let us remember the fundamental values of statehood and the historical path to independence! Besides, let us definitely remember that the people are the most valuable asset of Latvia, wherever they live and exist,” said Raimonds Vējonis.
