During his working visit, President of Latvia Egils Levits met with the media representatives of the largest media house in Europe, Axel Springer Verlag, and discussed the major challenges that the European Union would face.
Outlining the vector of future development of Europe during a discussion with journalists, President of Latvia Egils Levits stressed the importance of strengthening the shared historical memory of Europe. They also discussed current issues of the security of the European Union and transatlantic relations, as well as the cooperation between Latvia and Germany in the future.
To commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Baltic Way and the fall of the Berlin Wall, the role of both historical events in the formation of a united and democratic Europe was also discussed.
During the working visit, meetings with Federal President of Germany Dr Frank Walter Steinmeier, President of the Bundestag Dr. Wolfgang Schäuble, and representatives of the Latvian diaspora are planned.
