Minister Šuplinska briefed the President about the legislative changes proposed by the Ministry of Education and Science to improve the sector and increase its competitiveness. She also shared her vision of how governance of sector and promotion of scientific activities should be managed.
President Levits listened to the presentation by Minister Šuplinska and expressed his general support for reforms. However, Egils Levits also mentioned his concerns about ‘reform plan lacking details and being too global’, and thus not giving answers to specific questions put forward by the sector. President of Latvia also urged Ministry of Education and Science to seek more active involvement of general public and sectoral experts in deciding the detailed reform plan.
