On 26 June, President of Latvia Edgars Rinkēvičs met at the Jūrmala residence with the newly appointed minister of culture Agnese Lāce. During the meeting, the minister informed the President about her priorities and vision for strengthening the dialogue between the Ministry of Culture and the diverse culture sector in general. The officials discussed the issue of strengthening the information space in Latvia, potential support mechanisms for the regional press and issues pertaining to the Song and Dance Festival tradition.
“The Ministry of Culture oversees a broad range of important issues, and all sectors of Latvian culture are equally significant: museums, archives and libraries, theatres, cinema, monument protection, social integration and media policy. Therefore, I urge the new minister to strengthen the link with each sector of culture and to establish a close dialogue with them and especially with the people in these sectors. For they are the ones who participate, create, shape and also maintain on a daily basis the unique cultural environment of Latvia,” President of Latvia Edgars Rinkēvičs said after the meeting.
