On 17 July, President Edgars Rinkēvičs met with the Chairman of the Latvian Free Trade Union Confederation Egils Baldzēns in the Riga Castle to learn about the priorities of organisation’s work, including current issues of trade unions in various sectors.
The President took the view that the social dialogue between employees and employers should be mutually balanced, respecting the rights and interests of both parties, thus ensuring social stability in the country.
The parties also discussed productivity, collective bargaining and various issues related to tax regimes in the context of the Baltic States and the European Union. The President of Latvia confirmed his readiness to maintain a regular dialogue with the Free Trade Union Confederation of Latvia and sectoral trade unions.
