President of Latvia Raimonds Vējonis met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Russia in Latvia Alexander Veshnyakov on Wednesday, December 28.

 

During the farewell visit, Latvian-Russian bilateral relations were discussed, including cooperation between the two countries in culture, trade, transport, illegal migration, and other areas. The parties welcomed the achievements of the Commission for demarcation of the Latvian and Russian border, as the Commission completed the practical work on the demarcation of the border this year.

 

Both officials also discussed the political dialogue between the European Union and Russia.

 

The President of Latvia and the Ambassador agreed that the work of the Latvian and Russian inter-governmental commission should be intensified next year. Latvia committed to organising a meeting of the inter-governmental commission in Latvia in the first half of 2017.
