President of Latvia Raimonds Vējonis stressed today that the current conditions underlined the importance of our common action - maintaining a well-functioning EU and a strong NATO dedicated to the preservation of peace through security during the annual reception in honor of the foreign diplomatic corps in Latvia.

 

The President of Latvia said that despite the deficiencies of the decision-making process in the EU, we should recognise that EU cooperation had no alternative. Raimonds Vējonis called for protecting the achievements of the EU which have given long lasting peace and prosperity.

 

“Close ties, which have taken years to build, should not be destroyed; they should be continued for the benefit of all. It is clear that together we can achieve much more than we can individually,” said the President of Latvia.

 

In his address to the ambassadors, the President of Latvia emphasised the Latvia’s progress in strengthening its security by making the key decisions to increase investment in national security. Latvia also continues providing for stable economic growth having mentioned Latvia’s becoming a Member of the Organisation of Economic Cooperation and Development as a positive factor.
