On 14 August President of Latvia Egils Levits and Mrs Andra Levite visited Līvani Municipality to learn about the topical issues in the municipality, hear its success stories and main challenges.
According to Andris Vaivods, Chairman of the Municipal Council, the growth of Līvāni is based on business development, ensuring an attractive living environment to residents and targeted reinforcement of the school network — from pre-school all the way up to 1st level professional education.
Mrs Andra Levite was interested in opportunities for children of the municipality to take swimming lessons.
“Līvāni is a dynamic city with rapid growth, quality living and working conditions, and is especially suited for families,” President of Latvia Egils Levits said after meeting with the management of the Municipal Council.
While visiting the optic fibre producer SIA “Light Guide Optics International” the President of Latvia and the First Lady discussed with the management of the company Latvia’s competitiveness in the global high technologies sector. The director of the company Daumans Pfafords noted that Latvian companies compete not with their cheap labour, but rather with quality, knowledge and skills. The parties to the meeting were in agreement that Latvia is a strong player in the high technologies sector, therefore the state needs to focus on strengthening the quality of the education system.
During their working visit the President of Latvia and the First Lady also visited the Līvāni Glass and Crafts Centre and laid flowers at the Līvāni Liberation Monument.
