On 3 December President Edgars Rinkēvičs met with Saulius Skvernelis, Speaker of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania, at the Riga Castle. The meeting covered the close bilateral relations between the two countries, regional security and current issues on the international agenda.
During the meeting, the President of Latvia confirmed that Lithuania is one of Latvia's closest strategic partners and welcomed any cooperation formats for an even closer partnership between Lithuania and Latvia. "The unity of the Baltic states is essential for strengthening regional security in the current geopolitical environment. One such example is the synchronisation of the Baltic electricity grids with Europe, which will effectively end the Baltic states' dependence on Russian energy resources. It serves as an important investment in the Baltic states' energy security," said E. Rinkēvičs.
The President of Latvia emphasised the importance of maintaining political, military, economic, and financial support for Ukraine. At the same time, President Rinkēvičs expressed his support and solidarity with the people of Georgia in their struggle for justice and future European Union membership prospects. He also condemned the brutal attacks on protesters who stand firmly for their choice and future in the European Union.
