He expressed particular satisfaction for those families, who did many good deeds to surrounding people and their region despite daily concerns and responsibilities. “Participating in different artistic groups, helping their fellow humans, you prove that we can do a lot. Everyone can exemplify you!” stressed Raimonds Vējonis.
First Lady of Latvia Iveta Vējone also addressed the families and wished a peaceful time before Christmas to children and parents. “Thinking good thoughts more, speaking good words more, and doing good deeds more. May this Christmas be bright, white, and happy to you!” said Iveta Vējone.
The 20 families nominated by the Latvian Association of Local and Regional Governments attended the event devoted to the lighting of the Christmas tree of the Riga Castle upon the invitation of the President of Latvia. There are from three to nine children, babies under guardianship and foster children growing in these families. All families also share active engagement in the social life of their regions and cities.
Brencis family from Viļāni region, Cirsis family from Mazsalaca region, Ēķis family from Ogre region, Graudužs and Van Der Veen family from Rucava region, Gredzens family from Pārgauja region, Isačenko family from Cesvaine region, Kalniņš family from Burtnieki region, Kohs and Vinters family from Ventspils, Logins family from Ķegums region, Ošiņš family from Nereta region, Rutkovskis family from Beverīna region, Slišāns and Spridzāns family from Viļaka region, Sparāns family from Vārkava region, Stranga family from Jelgava region, Vācietis family from Tukums region, Vecpuisis family from Brocēni region, Vilze family from Koknese region, Zaķis family from Limbaži region, Zariņš family from Ozolnieki region, and Želns and Staroveckis family from Liepāja were invited to the Riga Castle.
