On 22 April, during his official visit to Kosovo, President of Latvia Egils Levits met with Latvian contingent of NATO Kosovo Force (KFOR), which currently continues NATO’s peace support operation with help of Latvian troops. President of Latvia met with NATO KFOR commander and Latvian soldiers that provide the national force contribution.
In his speech, President Levits underlined that participation of Latvian troops in Kosovo mission contributes to stronger unity between NATO member states and is important for national security and defence of Latvia. ‘Your presence here demonstrates Latvia’s solidarity with other allies, many of whom are currently deploying their troops to protect Latvia,’ President said.
‘We have to be ready to defend our state, people and democracy at all times. I am absolutely confident that our armed forces and Latvian troops of KFOR are ready for this task,’ Egils Levits added.
Latvian KFOR troops told President Levits about their daily routine, equipment and tasks in patrolling Kosovo border.
