Raimonds Vējonis pointed out that finding specific ways enabling to plan and finance construction of new roads optimally as soon as possible and maintaining an appropriate quality of the existing road network were very important.
When discussing the topicalities of transport and cargo transport, the President of Latvia expressed his concern about diminishing volume of cargo at Latvian ports and transport of company "Latvian Railway", by calling to continue work on diversification of the countries of origin of those cargoes and attracting new partners for cooperation.
Raimonds Vējonis welcomed the efforts of the government to strengthen transit and the Summit of Prime Ministers from China, Central and Eastern European countries upcoming this autumn in Riga. "It will be both a great event for development of joint cooperation between Latvia and European Union with China and it will also provide significant opportunities for promoting Latvia’s economic interests and cooperation contacts, while promoting Latvia on international arena,” said the President of Latvia.
The President of Latvia also stressed the great significance of railway project “Rail Baltica” for Latvia’s economy. “During the project implementation, it is essential to ensure more accessible public information related to “Rail Baltica” project, as well as extensive communication with all parties involved,” proposed Raimonds Vējonis.
During the meeting, the Minister of Transport also informed the President of Latvia about the latest developments in the field of aviation, including the measures taken for attracting of a strategic investor to national airline company “airBaltic”.
