On 26 March, President Edgars Rinkēvičs met with Igor Grosu, President of the Parliament of Moldova, at Riga Castle to discuss bilateral cooperation, Moldova's integration into the European Union (EU), regional security as well as Russia's aggression against Ukraine.
During the meeting, the President of Latvia asserted Latvia's unwavering support for Moldova's integration into the EU. "Latvia has and will continue to provide both political and practical support to Moldova's EU integration at the earliest opportunity," said E. Rinkēvičs.
The President of Latvia confirmed Latvia's interest in continuing cooperation with Moldova on development projects. Edgars Rinkēvičs expressed satisfaction with the increasing economic cooperation, particularly in the field of information and communication technologies, as well as the direct flights to Chisinau, which airBaltic will launch from Riga in May.
During the meeting, the President commended Moldova for its strong and principled stance in condemning Russian aggression and supporting for Ukraine, including the hosting of Ukrainian refugees. E. Rinkēvičs also recognized Moldova's resilience to Russia's hybrid threats, emphasizing the support provided by Latvia.
