During the meeting, President Levits underlined that the visit of the Speaker demonstrates Kyrgyzstan’s willingness to build closer cooperation with Latvia and the rest of the European Union.
Speaker Dzhumabekov agreed with President Levits and pointed out that Kyrgyzstan is looking forward to deepening relations with Latvia in several areas, including trade and economy, parliamentary dialogue, transfer of e-governance experience. Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh invited Egils Levits to EU-Central Asia Business Summit which will take place next year in Bishkek.
Kyrgyz delegation showed strong interest in Latvia’s experience of promoting parliamentary democracy. Kyrgyzstan, which recently joined the community of Central Asian parliamentary republics, is consider reforms necessary for strengthening the democracy and the rule of law, and Latvia’s experience would be useful in this process.
President Levits told that he has studied constitution adopted by Kyrgyzstan in 2010 and welcomes the country’s efforts to reinforce its democratic system. According to Egils Levits, strengthening of the rule of law is an important next step in successful development of every democratic nation.
