On 24 August, President of Latvia Edgars Rinkēvičs joined the Ambassador of Ukraine Anatolii Kutsevol and representatives of the Ukrainian diaspora in Latvia for celebration of Ukraine's Independence Day. He also addressed the guests gathered for the ceremony at the monument to Ukrainian poet Taras Shevchenko in the Riga Kronvalds’ Park.
‘18 months ago, Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine. We all see Ukrainian people – our Ukrainian brothers and sisters – continue to fight for their independence, freedom, statehood and territorial integrity. As we celebrate the Ukrainian Independence Day today, we also bow our heads to those who sacrificed their lives for the state of Ukraine. Latvia has provided strong support to Ukraine and its people ever since illegal annexation of Crimea in 2014. I promise, we will continue to provide this support until complete victory of Ukraine. I firmly believe that there will come a day when our Ukrainian friends and us will celebrate Ukrainian Independence Day in liberated Donetsk, liberated Crimea and the whole free, independent and fully-liberated Ukraine,’ President of Latvia Edgars Rinkēvičs said to those gathered.
