Raimonds Vējonis
“For Latvia and Croatia, strengthening cooperation in security and defence and working closely together in strengthening the project of a united Europe are vital,” stated President of Latvia Raimonds Vējonis during his meeting with President of Croatia Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic on Saturday.

During the meeting, the officials discussed the files on security, the European Union, and bilateral cooperation, including expansion of the economic cooperation between Latvia and Croatia.

“We see the intensified presence of the NATO on the Eastern flank as a single operational field, therefore we are pleased with the contribution of Croatia to the allied battalion in Lithuania,” said Raimonds Vējonis.

When discussing the EU current events, both Presidents agreed on the need for close cooperation among the Member States to consolidate the European Union. Both politicians at the EU level and national level should forge communication that was more active to strengthen the role of the European project in the eyes of the citizens. A common vision for the future of the EU should be drafted. “Latvia considers that we should rely on three pillars, common values, security, and prosperity,” outlined Raimonds Vējonis.
