‘Krāslava is a special place in Latgale and on the map of our country. Not only is it one of the oldest inhabited territories in Latvia, but people of different nationalities and confessions have been able to live and develop peacefully together here, on the border of the country, for a long time. I am particularly pleased and satisfied with the energetic entrepreneurs and residents of Krāslava,’ said President Edgars Rinkēvičs during his visit.
During his visit, the President of Latvia got acquainted with the vision of Krāslava Municipality on its future development, including the issues of education, school system reform, transport and infrastructure, television and radio broadcasting.
In Krāslava Municipality the dominant economic sectors are those typical for Latgale, mainly agricultural processing, forestry and wood processing, light industry (clothing production), trade, rural tourism and services. During the visit, E. Rinkēvičs visited a number of enterprises in Krāslava Municipality.
At the end of the visit, at the Krāslava House of Culture, the President of Latvia met, listened to and answered the questions raised by the residents of Krāslava Municipality and gave interviews to the media representatives.
