On 12 December, President Edgars Rinkēvičs visited the Corruption Prevention and Combating Bureau (KNAB), where he met with the Head of the Bureau Jēkabs Straume, employees, got acquainted with the work organization of the KNAB and discussed current work issues.
‘The security situation in the world reminds us once again how important it is for Latvia's security to work together to fight corruption. We must continue to work actively to grow our intolerance of corruption in the public and private sectors. I thank the staff of the KNAB for actively addressing the corruption risks posed by technology. The focus of the KNAB must continue to be on performance and results in cases involving a high risk of corruption,’ said the President of Latvia after his visit.
During the meeting, KNAB representatives also informed about the areas of corruption risk, which are being given more attention. During the visit, President Rinkēvičs also discussed the risks of using artificial intelligence in pre-election campaigning.
President of Latvia commemorated the International Anti-Corruption Day and the 20th anniversary of the adoption of the United Nations Convention against Corruption, which also established the commemoration of such a day on 9 December. International cooperation and the adoption of best practices in the fight against corruption are an important part of the work to prevent and combat corruption.
