On 23 May, President Edgars Rinkēvičs paid a working visit to the state city of Ventspils. The president of Latvia met with the leadership of the Ventspils City Municipality to discuss a wide range of issues, including accessibility and financing of housing mortgages, work on implementing the civil protection plan and utilising European Union funds. Continuing his visit, the President of Latvia visited the Ventspils Technical College, where he got acquainted with the work of the educational institution and met with the students. During his working visit, E. Rinkēvičs also visited the Science and Education Centre 'Vizium', the video game accessory manufacturing company 'Azeron' Ltd. and the municipal vehicle manufacturing company 'Bucher Municipal' Ltd. Additionally, E. Rinkēvičs met with representatives of the Freeport of Ventspils and companies of the Special Economic Zone.
“Today, I had the opportunity to meet with the leadership of the state city of Ventspils, the teaching staff and students of Ventspils Technical College, business representatives from various sectors, and to talk directly with the residents of Ventspils. I am pleased that Ventspils has a high number of working professionals and is engaged in efforts to attract young people and new investments. Ventspils has traditionally been renowned for its robust manufacturing and transport sectors, which have undoubtedly been affected by the recent pandemic and Russia’s ongoing war against Ukraine. Therefore, it is crucial to leverage the port's regional advantages to develop energy sector projects, facilitate the construction of new, modern factories and attract a highly skilled workforce. It is just as important that Ventspils invests in the surrounding environment to ensure that every resident benefits from high-quality working and living conditions," said President Edgars Rinkēvičs.
During the visit, the President of Latvia laid flowers at the memorial stone "To the seafarers and fishermen who perished in the sea" and visited the Seaside Open-Air Museum.
At the conclusion of the visit, President Rinkēvičs met with the residents of Ventspils at the concert hall 'Latvija'.
