On the subject of how Economic Affairs Court will be governed and its role in national judicial system, President Levits expressed hope that many high level professionals will choose to apply for new positions of justices, including those who have worked in the judicial system for years and young up and coming lawyers, thus promoting and strengthening the accountability and values underpinning Latvian judiciary.
Minister and President also revisited the issue of judicial training and Egils Levits reiterated that curricula should be enhanced with training on judicial management skills.
President of Latvia and Minister for Justice then moved on to role of Latvia’s Official Journal (Latvijas Vēstnesis) in strengthening of national information space. Egils Levits pointed out that homogenous information space plays an especially crucial role in times when democracy is facing numerous challenges. According to President Levits, these issues should be on the political agenda.
Egils Levits and Jānis Bordāns also exchanged views on real estate tax policy and reform, emphasising that an overall concept of how to improve the system must be developed.
